Oil at 3-1/2 year low, below $47
Wednesday, December 03, 2008
CNN Money -- NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Oil prices continued falling on Tuesday, tumbling to 3-1/2 year low, as concern about the floundering global economy and falling demand again took center stage.

U.S. crude for January delivery fell $2.32 to settle at $46.96 a barrel. It was the lowest closing price since May 20, 2005, when oil settled at $46.80 a barrel.

A day earlier, oil prices plummeted more than $5 a barrel in the wake of a spate of gloomy economic reports.

"People are worried about their jobs, about their ability to pay for Christmas," said Tom Orr, head of research for brokerage Weeden & Co.

Between 2003 and 2005 the Oil price was even lower $22-45 and OPEC was very happy....why shouldn'd they be now when the price is higher than that?

I know we should all conserve and I do conserve a bunch. But we must do something about the supply also and not the direction that obama and many of his cohorts want to do. Such as stopping drilling in many places and raise gas taxes

I got gas here in Memphis, Tn (near Wolfchase Mall) for $1.49 on tuesday.

I'm loving the low gas prices, but I still don't drive much cuz I don't work as a disabled veteran. Plus if I need something, everything is very close. I didn't even drive yesterday and I don't drive my car everyday. So I'm definitely keeping supply out there since I don't buy much gas.

how old is this? I have not returned to my wasteful ways. High prices have made me find alternatives to save money. I do not plan on going back.

My fear is that most Americans are so into feeling good that short term memories will prevail, we will fall into old behavior patterns, forget what conserving has done, and we will see prices rise again.

Dropped again here today to 1.49! Will we have long term memories and keep conserving?

Why was it ever at $147. Things haven't changed that much between July and now to warrant the significant difference in price.

Everyone, please do not lose focus on conserving just because the prices are low. If we don't conserve then the prices that we saw last july will pale in comparison to what we will see.

Conserve. We can't let the low prices lure us back to our old ways. Investment in new technologies will be cut back until prices go back up and make them profitable.

Even though the price of oil is down right now, we need to continue to pursue increased domestic development so we are in a position to produce that oil when the price comes up enough to make it profitable.

While I am enjoying being able to pay down the credit card that I used when prices were driving toward $4, I feel sorry for the oilfield workers in Oklahoma and West Texas that are losing their jobs due to the low price of oil.

Demand is down and the market is driving the price down. If the price were to go up then demand would fall even more.
