Senate panel considers separating oil, gas taxation

Anchorage Daily News online -- JUNEAU -- A bill that would change Alaska's system of taxing oil and gas production together got its first hearing Tuesday, with consultants giving the Senate Finance Committee a rundown on the separation of the two.

Public testimony is set for later this week, with senators hoping to hear from Gov. Sean Parnell's administration as well.

cheapertvs: renegadegas is right. There aren't many cars (other than some fleet vehicles) that run on CNG. And you won't see oil phased out. If it was ONLY in car fuel, maybe, but it's in EVERYTHING PLASTIC to start with. And I doubt we ever see the end of plastic.

cheapertvs...thats a pipe dream. Do you honestly think that in todays economy and the uncertainty of tomorrows that people are going to jump out in a leap of faith and buy a new car that runs on natural gas. No. They are going to be doing the best they can to keep the gasoline pweered cars they have running and as cheaply as possible. You or I wont live long enough to see oil phased out. I can say that with certainty and I dont even know how old you are.

I believe we are seeing the beginnings of the paradigm shift in our primary fuel from oil to natural gas. Given the amounts of the stuff recently found as well as the amazing amount of reserves in the ground, it is becoming abundantly clear that oil is going down.

Another step closer to hussiens desire to lock and hold gas prices between $3.50 and $4.00 a gallon regardless the price of oil. He has said this many times and even during the campaign. Locking prices will be a lot easier for them if they can split it from oil.

This is interesting. Trying to give the gas producer a reason to capture rather than flare off gas is a good idea...

I thought this was to aid the Alaskan Residents during the recession that is about ended.

We should all eat more wild fish harvested from Alaskan waters to help them out. Would be healthier than most other protein sources too.

All governments seek to improve revenues. It is generally through increasing taxes or imposing fees. This looks likes politics as usual.

The pipeline could be filled to capacity if the government would allow drilling and pumping from ANWR just a few miled up the north coast from the pipeline head.

Anything to get more money. They, and all other states as well, should look in their own backyards. Cut politicians salaries, benefits and office perks as a start. Let our leaders work and get benefits under the same umbrella that most of us share.
